In 1870s India, Charulata is an isolated, artistically inclined woman who sees little of her busy journalist husband, Bhupati. Realizing that his wife is alienated and unhappy, he convinces his cousin, Amal, to spend time with Charulata and nourish her creative impulses. Amal is a fledgling poet himself, and he and Charulata bond over their shared love of art. But over time attraction develops between them, with heartbreaking results.
Satyajit Ray's Charulata is arguably his most intimate film and the one he considers his most perfect among all his films. The biggest achievement of cinema lies in letting the audience really see and feel the turmoil and longings of its protagonists such that one doesn't anymore see them as unknown beings but finds oneself in them, and Charulata achieves this with utmost poignancy.

We hope you will join us at the screening for our initial steps towards facilitating a new culture of cinema viewing beyond multiplexes and OTTs, which isn't about 'consuming' cinema, but meaningfully experiencing and engaging with it.
