The Golden Thread (2022)
Nishtha Jain
In the heyday of the jute industry, millions of people in Bengal made their living doing this laborious work, which has hardly changed since the industrial revolution. The 100-year-old machinery has been endlessly repaired. State aid kept this sustainable alternative to plastic going, but its future looks bleak.

"My stories are complex. They are not black and white. They lie in the gray. (The Golden Thread) is not just a one-line story. Its about jute. Its about this factory. Its about the ecosystem. Its about factories being made obsolete. Its about how these factories work and the people (who work in them)."
- Nishtha Jain to Variety
