Altodi Poltodi (Rai & Savyasachi)
It began with the story of Rakhondars, spirit-protectors in Goa, and asking around about them. In the process, we were often confronted by the question of insider-outsider politics in Goa. The mythical spirit protector protects the 'inside' from 'outside' exploitation and walks along the periphery of the village to keep watch every night. We were thinking about that invisible dividing line through our own experiences and about what we could gather from people who still carry these myths within themselves.
Requiem of a Mangrove Forest (Payal Kakkar)
The film is a chronicle of sub-sequential death of two mangrove forests at Merces and Corlim in Goa, India over a period of four years (2021-2024) and encourages to re-imagine the significance of mangroves in times of rising temperatures and sea levels. The film focuses on impact of change in climatic conditions, increase or decrease in salinity of waters, excess sediment deposit by the flood waters from dams and indiscriminate disposal of construction waste on mangrove forests.
Note: Payal will be present for a Q&A at the screening.
